Varicose Vein Treatment: Am I a Good Candidate for VenaSeal?

Varicose Vein Treatment: Am I a Good Candidate for VenaSeal?

Varicose veins are unsightly, twisted veins that often appear in the feet, ankles, and legs. They're usually the result of venous insufficiency, a condition in which blood can't flow back to the heart properly.

Faulty or weak valves in the leg veins can lead to venous insufficiency and varicose veins. At the Vein, Heart, and Vascular Institute, we offer several treatments, including compression therapy, endovenous ablation, and VenaSeal™.

Dr. Hesham Fakhri is our founder and an experienced cardiologist who evaluates varicose veins to determine whether VenaSeal or another treatment is right for you.

What is VenaSeal?

Varicose veins cause cosmetic distress and can lead to other issues. They appear as twisted and discolored veins that cause leg heaviness, itching skin, and other bothersome symptoms.

VenaSeal is one of the many treatments available for varicose veins. It's a minimally invasive vein treatment that utilizes a tiny catheter and medical-grade sealant to close off the vein.

During this procedure, we insert a small catheter into a leg vein using ultrasound to guide it to the varicose vein. We then deliver the specialized sealant into the troubled vein and apply slight pressure to the area.

Finally, we remove the catheter and place a bandage over the small incision site. After we seal off the vein, blood moves into healthier vessels that deliver blood back to the heart. Over time, your body eliminates the damaged blood vessel by absorbing it into the bloodstream.

Good candidates for VenaSeal

Many people living with varicose veins can benefit from the VenaSeal procedure. Dr. Fakhri assesses your veins and symptoms to determine the best treatment route for your needs.

Although the VenaSeal procedure is minimally invasive, it's not a good option for everyone. Good candidates for the VenaSeal procedure include those who have:

Symptomatic varicose veins

Not everyone requires varicose vein treatments, especially without symptoms. But if you experience leg pain, heaviness, itching, or dry skin, you could benefit from the VenaSeal procedure.

Chronic venous insufficiency

Chronic venous insufficiency is a direct result of varicose veins. If you're showing signs of chronic venous insufficiency due to varicose veins, we recommend the VenaSeal procedure to increase blood flow back to the heart.

Varicose veins greater than two centimeters

People with larger varicose veins are better candidates for the VenaSeal procedure. We often recommend it to people with veins measuring more than two centimeters in diameter.

Advanced symptoms

People experiencing advanced symptoms of varicose veins are also good candidates for the VenaSeal procedure. If you have skin damage, ulcers, or inflammation within the veins, VenaSeal provides permanent relief by cutting off the blood supply to the vein.

Benefits of the VenaSeal procedure

When you're tired of looking at bothersome varicose veins, you want fast results with minimal downtime. The good news is that the VenaSeal procedure provides many other advantages.

One significant benefit of the procedure is that it's minimally invasive. No general anesthesia or surgery is required, meaning you can quickly return to normal activities.

VenaSeal also doesn't pose the risks of burns or heat damage like other procedures. There's no chance of nerve damage with the sealant, meaning we can eliminate your varicose veins safely and effectively.

Other vein treatments also lead to extreme bruising or pain after the procedure, but not VenaSeal. It's a simple procedure, so you don't have to worry about unsightly bruises and pain after treatment.

The results are long-lasting and help you improve health and wellness by rerouting the blood supply to healthier veins.
